Request the School Board to (1) review the minimum standards, (2) evaluate where the district's schools meet or do not meet these standards, (3) forward the minimum standards to the State School Board Association with a request to lobby for a state minimum standards school safety bill, and (4) provide the State School Board Association with the district's evaluation of its schools' security deficiencies, as determined by the NTOA minimum standards, to supply actionable data supporting lobbying efforts for a state safety bill.
Present the "Classroom Attack" video and firmly state that the footage clearly shows a wood classroom doors with a window near the lock are unsafe. Request the school board to report on the type of door in each district school.
Assert that classrooms must be secure spaces and insist on the installation of NIJ Level III/UL Level 8 ballistic doors as recommended by the NTOA minimum standards.

From 2000 to 2019, there were 354 shooting incidents in schools, resulting in 322 deaths and 608 injuries. Between 2020 and September 2024, there have been 202 such incidents, with 130 people killed and 243 wounded. The harsh reality is that your child is at risk of life-threatening injury if a shooting occurs. American schools remain highly vulnerable to mass shootings because neither state governments nor the federal government have enacted funded laws or provided the funding needed to implement basic security and safety standards across all schools. In the five mass shootings studied by the NTOA between 2018 and 2023, 112 children, teachers, and staff members were shot, most within the first four minutes of the attack. READ MORE...
If a shooting occurs, there is no guarantee that a child will return home safely—a nightmare no parent should ever have to face. Unfortunately, most parents remain unaware of the significant security deficiencies in their children's schools. The purpose of this site is to raise awareness and provide actionable steps to help you advocate for meaningful improvements in school safety.
The preventable loss of life in school shootings underscores the urgent need for change that can only happen with a state minimum school safety law based on the NTQA recommended minimum standards. A UL Level 8/NIJ Level III Ballistic Classroom Door is one of the standards. These doors can withstand up to 30 minutes of sustained assault, affording ample time to shield students and staff until law enforcement intervenes. There is no substitute for this level of defense against mass school attacks. Let's advocate for the adoption of this new security standard in American schools. Take action by demanding a meeting with your school board, bolstered by the expertise of an NTOA representative.
